Guidelines for hosting Tournaments
3-4-08
These are guidelines....please remember at times there may be some extenuating circumstances
which may require some adjustment to these guidelines..please use your best judgment.
Remember, we are here for the MEMBERS !!
***If you want EASY...don't become a TD***

Yahoo Instant Messenger

.....is a REQUIREMENT for hosting tournaments.  If you do not have it please download and install asap.  If you need assistance please ask.

Tourneys:

Do NOT hold up your tourney for the previous tourney to finish...if you are running two (2) in a row and running late.....please ask another TD, HTD or Admin to either start your next tourney or watch the tables for you so you can start next tourney.  If no other TD is able to assist you then feel free to push the starting time back 15 minutes.

Players must be in the last 3 hands of finals or they can not play in the next tourney...if within that 3 hands and on the next tourney their game is called they have a choice of getting a sub for either game.

Please make all tourneys seeded by either registration number or random seeding......

When another TD is hosting a tourney please try not to assist too much with pairings as this can get rather confusing in the lobby for all involved.  However, if you need help please feel free to ask another TD for assistance.

If you see another TD may need help please IM them and offer suggestions or assistance but never, under any circumstances, should another TD take over in the lobby or in a game.  Doing so is disrespectful for the TD hosting and can make that TD appear incapable in the eyes of the members.

Please start your tourney by 10 minutes after start time.....however, also please use your best judgment with this as there are, at times, extenuating circumstances.  For example:  a random tourney and you need one more.....try your best to get one more as we don't want to close on someone that wants to play.

Be in the room no less than 45 minutes prior to start time to begin advertising your tourney and assisting with pairing up teams.  Please do not begin advertising for your tour more than one hour prior to start time.

If you make a tourney and find you can not be there...please try to find someone to cover for you ...or see if you can temporarily switch times with another TD.  Please try to allow enough time to fill this spot for you.

Do NOT, under any circumstances, move a tourney once a player has registered into it.  If you can not run it due to not enough players then DELETE it.  DO NOT just move it.  It must be deleted.

If you call a pairing and the table is not made.....call the pairing a second time using wording such as: (TEAM 1 INVITE TEAM 2 AND ME.....2ND CALL....failure to make will result in your opponents making the table and choice of seats.)  Please give a reasonable length of time for tables to be made.  If the lobby is overly congested it's possible the first calling went unseen.

Effective: June 3, 2008

We ask that no 1 vs 1 tourneys be hosted between the hours of 10 AM and through the 12 AM tour with the exception of one handed roulettes which may be hosted anytime.  Any time other than between those hours tds may host 1 vs 1's.

Double Elimination Tournaments:

A new table MUST be made for every game.  On occasion the finals game in a double elimination tour will require a second game to determine the winner....always have a new table made for the second game.

All double elimination tours will be 6/20/500.

Tourney Rules:

Format for our tourneys is:  The specific game you are playing rules should be on the main tourney page (Customize Tourney Layout) and the League Specific Rules for all Tourneys on the tourney rules page (Customize Tourney Rules) ..copy and paste codes can be found in the TD Help Center.  If you need assistance please ask.

Games:

We ask that the  12 PM, 4 PM, 8 PM and 10 PM always be regular spades (which does NOT include suicide).....beyond that you are free to make your tours whatever games you like.

The admin team encourages the use of odd hours for the more weird and off the wall games.

Please keep your game choice limited to the games you find in our TD Help Center where you will find all the copy and paste codes for them.

If you'd like to use another game.....please submit the game in detail to any of the admins via email for approval.

When you call a game for time .... try to give at least a few minutes warning....such as: 10 minutes left or "you have 5 minutes left on game timer.".  When game time is up....inform them of this and allow them to finish the hand.  A game is NEVER called during the middle of a hand.....it's always played out.

Misbids......game is over at the called number of hands/ game time/ or 500 points or when yahoo ends the game.........THEN you access the misbid (s) to determine the winner.

Tour Times:

Even hour tours:  10 am, 12 pm, 2 pm, 4 pm, 6 pm, 8 pm and 10 pm.  Please make these tours 2 vs 2 and no less than 10 hands.

If, for some reason your tourney gets started 30 minutes or more late, you, as the TD, do have the authority to change the hands to 6 as long as it is announced BEFORE the tourney begins and is carried through the entire tourney.  This would make the tour little shorter in time and closer to finishing in time for the next.

Odd hour tours: 9  am, 11 am, 1 pm, 3 pm, 5 pm, 7 pm, 9 pm and 11 pm and MUST be 5 hands or less.  We really prefer the even hour tours are filled first and then odd hour tours after that.

Making Tours and requesting time slots:

We ask that you take at least one regular tour time slot per week, if at all possible.  Please talk to jm468 or jzimmie99, TD Manager about getting your name on the master schedule shown near the bottom of our main league page.

If you have a regular time slot we ask that you make your tourney at least 3-7 days in advance.  Please do not take another TD's reserved time slot more than 48 hours in advance.  Check the master schedule on the main league page for reserved time slots.

Any open tourney slots are free for any TD to make a tour up to 48 hours prior.

Any time slot not reserved to another td can be taken up to 7 days in advance.  Again, check the main page for reserved time slots.

Boxing:

As a TD, you do have the authority to box if needed.....please get a screen shot for backup (a picture is worth a thousand words) and contact an admin asap to do the actual box for you.  Please click here for our boxing procedure and league statement.  The TD's name will appear along with the admin doing the boxing.

TD Policy:

We do have a very detailed TD Policy and follow it to the letter......please make sure you are familiar with it so you don't lose your TD status.  If you have any questions or requests please contact our TD Manager......which you can find listed on the main league page under "Who Do I Contact..

TD Email Address:

Please keep your email current as much information will be passed on to you in this way.

Tourney Page Images:

It is NOT a requirement that you decorate your tourney pages!

Our Admin team does not wish to resort to "censoring" images the TD uses for decorating tourney pages.  Please use good judgment in your choice of images as some may be offended.  If this becomes a problem we will address it with the individual TD.

General rule of thumb:  No nudity

You can find many "pre-made tourneys" at my site www.ladyjm.com

Other:

You.....as an Admin, HTD or TD need to know our League Specific Rules.  Please make yourself familiar with them.  They can be found on the main league page under the LADDER Section:  or follow this link-->  League Rules

Yahoo Lag Policy (YLP)
November 27, 2007

The lag is unpredictable and inconsistent.  It is important for Staff to handle tourneys as consistently as possible when lag occurs.  Use this as a guideline and as always use good common sense.

Lag = 2 minutes or less

  •     Play  tourney as any other, add 5 minutes to game timer of all tables, call game in number of hands, time limit or 500 points as always.

Lag = 2 minutes or more for over 5 consecutive minutes

  •     Check Canada Intermediate 2, Canada Advanced Lounge 2 or 3 or Mexico Jubilados.  If no league is using one of them and you are able to make a table and there is no lag, move the tourney.

  •     Games that have not completed 3 hands will move to Canada room and restart their games.

  •     Games that have completed 3 hands or more, write down score and bags and move to Canada room, keep score manually.

  •     Any member that does not move to the Canada room, their partner will be allowed 5 minutes to get a sub.  10-minute timer will be put on any team not in Canada room, after 10 minutes team will be dq’d.

ABSOLUTE HORRIBLE LAG AND UNABLE TO MAKE TABLES IN CANADA

  •     Post all completed games on your admin tourney page.

  •     Any game that completed 7 or more hands, declare a winner and post the game on your admin tourney page.

  •     DO NOT delete or close the tourney.  Email Head Admin or Co-Head Admin Games will be reported to the ladder and the tourney will then be deleted.
