Caramel Bars

Ingredients
  • 32 Kraft Caramels
  • 5 Tbsp cream or Carnation evaporated milk
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup quick oatmeal
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • ¾ cup melted butter
  • 6 oz Chocolate chips
  • ½ cup crushed nuts
 
Preparation
  • Melt 32 caramels with 5 Tbsp cream in a double boiler. (I use a small metal mixing bowl and place in a pan of water over the stove).
  • Mix flour, oatmeal, baking powder, salt, brown sugar and butter together.
  • Place ½ of this mixture in the bottom of a 9x13 pan patting down firmly to form a nice base.  Bake at 350° for 10 minutes.
  • Cover with 6 oz chocolate chips then sprinkle crushed nuts.
  • Pour melted caramels over and sprinkle remaining mixture.
  • Bake 350° for 15-20 minutes.  Cut into desired size bars.
