Chocolate Covered Mice

Serves / Makes:   40 - 50 Mice

Ingredients
  • 2 Jars of maraschino cherries with stems (the size of jar depends on how many mice you want to make, my jars came with about 27 cherries in them according to serving size)
  • 1 bag Hershey's kisses (white or dark chocolate)
  • 1 package chocolate bark (white or dark)
  • Bag of almond slices
  • 1 Tbsp Crisco
  • 1 tube gel icing (any color you wish I used red glitter)

Preparation
  • Empty the cherries from the jar, rinse them and place on a paper towel to dry. Make sure the cherries are completely dry before you begin making your mice. (Make sure you eat any cherries that have fallen off the stem, lol.)
  • Take 2-3 blocks of the chocolate and place in microwave safe dish. Place in microwave for about 20-30 seconds. Remove and stir. Add a small spoon full of crisco to the chocolate. This will help thin it out so that it covers the cherries more evenly. Place back in microwave at 10 second intervals until the chocolate is completely melted.
  • Prepare the rest of your ingredients prior to assembly. Remove foil from the kisses and set them in a line. Dump your almond slices onto a plate so that you can choose "ears" that are close to size. Place a sheet of wax paper onto a baking sheet or pizza pan (or your counter would be fine also).
  • Now for the fun part. Take one of the cherries ( make sure they are completely dry ) and dip into the melted chocolate covering them up to the base of the stem. I had to use a spoon and sort of pour my chocolate onto the cherry to completely cover it. Lay them down on the wax paper. Take a Hershey's kiss and dip the flat end into the chocolate then place it against your dipped cherry to form the "head". Now grab 2 almond slices similar in shape and size and wedge between the kiss and cherry. This might take a little practice to get them to stay just right.
  • Once your mouse is assembled, dip your next cherry and make another. If you run out of chocolate just add more bark and a little Crisco and heat in the microwave until melted same as before. Allow the mice to "dry" until the chocolate has hardened.
  • The last step is to take the gel icing and dab little eyes on your mice as well as on the tip of their nose. You might have to take a tooth pick and move the gel around if it starts to move. A few of my mice had droopy eyes lol.
