St Valentine's Day has roots in several different legends that have found their way to us through the ages.  One of the earliest popular symbols of the Valentine's day is Cupid, the Roman god of love, who is represented by the image of a young boy with bow and arrow.  Cupid has long played a role in the celebrations of love and lovers.  He is known as a mischievous, winged child, whose arrows would pierce the hearts of his victims causing them to fall deeply in love.

In ancient Greece he was known as Eros the young son of Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty.  To the Roman's he was Cupid, and his mother Venus.  Cupid, dates back to ancient Greece.

In Latin, the word Cupido means desire.  As a messenger of his mother, the goddess of love, Cupid would shoot his gold-tipped arrows, and those struck by the arrows would fall in love.  In the middle ages, the custom of choosing a sweetheart on this date spread through Europe in the Middle Ages, and then to the early American colonies.  Throughout the ages, people also believed that birds picked their mates on February 14!

Whether you are sending a valentine, candy, or flowers; Forevers, be sure to know that here at ForeverSpades you are all loved and cherished!  For each and every one of you are dear to my heart!

For this Valentines Day be sure to look for our Special Tours and instead of a box of Candy; each team with the seed number of 14 will receive 500 bux starting with the midnight tour on the 14th through the 10 pm tour!  (if for some reason there is not a team 14 seed the lucky seed team will be 7!)

Good Luck and I look forward to spading with everyone on this Valentines Day!

Dear Andy,

I just started playing more in ForeverSpades.  A few days ago, I was playing a game in a tour and I asked what hand it was.  My opponent, who was host of table, told me to look at score and count the hand there.  I had got booted so I knew it didn't show correctly in score and after few more hands were played, I im'd the td and asked what hand we were on and the td told me it was hand 6.

At other games I see the host keeps track of hands and sometimes I see the hosts partner or opponents saying hands counts.  Who is suppose to track hands or does no one do it or what is the right way?  I am upset I felt like I was stupid, but I would like to know about the tracking of hands in case I am host.

Lost in Hand Count

Dear Lost,

I understand your feeling lost.  My investigation is over and its like this; While anyone can do the hand count it is ultimately the responsibility of the host to make sure the hand count is done.  Some TD's say "host tracks hands please, " but anyone can post the hand count and sometimes both teams do and that's okay also.

Hop onto the rules link on any tournament page and you can find the section for "Tables" and it says, "Host is asked to keep track of hands".   I hope this gets you found instead of lost.

'til next mail call...this is Andy Landers splashing off the lily pad

For those that pray

Remember our league members have real lives, the person behind the id, and many have hardships of illness or other things going on and have unspoken requests. . Let's remember the unspoken requests and remember, at the tables as we play, to be a good sport and play fast and considerate of each other.

For your information:

Just what is Table Talk ???

Well lets see, if I type at the table "no way I’m gonna make this nil" and the hand is still in play-- yup this is table talk!  Another example would be; players are bidding and the red just bid 1,then stated "horrible hand here", blue has not bid yet and the other red player still has to bid, (not everyone has bid and the hand is still in play) … yup this is table talk!

Now on the other hand, if the hand has been played, meaning all cards have been played and that round is posted at the table and red says … sorry P, I knew I could not make that nil …. Oh wow these are horrible cards!  Etc. it's not table talk.  Why you ask?  Hand has been played, completed and scored!   Hope everyone sees the differences here!

Now, just what are your options when you suspect table talk?  Whenever you have a question be sure and IM the td!  Table talk must be called by the opponents and the game must be stopped at that point, the td notified and then the talk will be evaluated by the td to determine if there was table talk.  Hope everyone sees the differences here!

Also, I will post our leagues rule here. Be sure and click the link at the bottom!
Many, many questions about our League and Game play can be answered here!

TABLE TALK
ABSOLUTELY NO TABLE TALK IS ALLOWED
ANY TALK REGARDING THE CURRENT HAND MAY BE CONSIDERED TABLE TALK
1st--OPPONENTS HAVE THE OPTION OF SKIPPING HAND AND YOU ARE WARNED
2nd--OPPONENTS HAVE THE OPTION OF SKIPPING HAND, AND THE OFFENDING PLAYER WILL BE DQ'd AND BOXED
THE REMAINING PLAYER MAY GET A SUB TO COMPLETE THE TOURNEY
IF BOTH PLAYERS ARE GUILTY OF TABLE TALK THE TEAM WILL BE DQ'd
THE TD MUST BE CALLED DURING THE HAND IN QUESTION
IF THE HAND HAS BEEN COMPLETED NO ACTION WILL BE TAKEN

Good Luck Spading Everyone!
