Wow it is already November. It seems like we just started 2012 a few days ago. I hope you all enjoyed Halloween. Hopefully, all our members stayed safe during the recent storm. I am sure we will always remember the Halloween when Frankenstorm came to visit.

Who said Halloween is just for kids? Those of us who played in the masquerade tour had a blast. The lobby was full of strange IDs and their character performances were hilarious. It was fun trying to figure out who was who. Congrats to those who won prizes, and thanks to those who donated time, money, and bux. Danzay1 (cannibalized rancid corpse) and six_x_champs won the tournament. The Best ID went to forevers_april who came as “mitt.zombie” and best actor went to dowopshawty who came as “dead like me.” Please see the league forum for a complete list of winners and who was who. Thanks for the fun and laughs! Thank you to joeiison and beauty_with_desire5 for hosting. You two did an outstanding job. A special thanks to those who contributed to the prizes: forevers_teddy_bear, chocogramof8, rainbow_star_dreamer, mouse_feathers_2, jzimmie99, and jm468 (oh and me…ha-ha).

Are you all looking forward to the coming Holidays? I have so much to be thankful for, so I really am excited about Thanksgiving. Then, just around the corner are Christmas and the winter holidays. I am sure there will be some special fun things coming up soon. So, be on the lookout for announcements.

Speaking of specials, once a month, mouse_feathers_2 hosts a birthday bash for our members whose birthdays fall during the given month. We also like to wish you happy birthday on the tag board, but we cannot wish you a happy birthday unless you let us know when it is. So, please add your birthday to the birthday calendar or let mouse know so he can add you. If he isn’t around, just put a note on the tag board with your birthday asking to be added. No need to list the year, just the day and month. 

Congratulations to agent_lyndz and collierkaleb on winning the past Tournament of Champions. The next TOC is scheduled for Monday night @ 8 p.m. You must have won a tournament during October to participate. If you are not sure, check the tournament page to see if you are listed. You can see all our upcoming specials and who won recently on the tournament tab. 

Our league is Cases MyLeague’s largest yahoo spades league, and has been for a good while. The reason is because of the awesome staff and members. I would like to say a special thanks to jm468 (our head admin) for all she does. She keeps the league running smooth, fair, and honest. She works behinds the scenes updating rules, league pages, listening to our endless complaints (lol), and trying to smooth ruffled feathers. Our admin team works hard too. Many of them do time consuming and tedious jobs to keep the league running smooth. Most of this goes unnoticed. This includes keeping up with specials, sub reports, page designs, handling troublemakers, assisting members, etc. These jobs are done by members who give their time to the league so we can all enjoy it. Sometimes, we have to make decisions that affect someone we really like, but we have to remain fair. And, what would a league be without Tournament Directors? It would cease to exist.

Our TD Manager, jzimmie99, told me that our TD's have been busier than one arm paper hangers, stepping up and filling tours every day. Congrats! Life makes changes in us all when we least expect it...aka Hurricane Sandy on the East Coast...illness, family emergencies, new jobs or work that intrudes on our times. Even with all of that, all the TD's have been rising to the occasion whenever they can, so KUDOS to all the TD's! And, she didn’t have to call a single one into her office last month…ha-ha! 

We are always looking for members who are willing to help us run tournaments. If you have a love for the league, and are willing to host even one tour every few weeks, we could use you. No experience is needed, because we will show you all the ropes and help you run tours until you are ready to go it alone. If you are not able to host tours, you can still help by greeting new members, helping them learn how to join tours, make tables, etc. And, the biggest way we can all help the league and continue to grow is how we conduct ourselves winning or losing. The greatest accomplishment in winning or losing is to learn to do it with dignity and respect. Nothing kills a league more than a bunch of bad sports. Thank goodness we have awesome members! 



A man buys a parrot, only to have it constantly insult him. He tries everything to make the parrot stop, but nothing works. Frustrated, the man puts the parrot in the freezer. After a few minutes the insults stop. The man thinks he might have killed the parrot, so he opens the freezer and takes the parrot out. The parrot is shivering. It stammers, “S-s-sorry for being r-r-rude. Please f-f-forgive me.” Then, after a moment, the parrot softly asks, “W-w-what exactly d-d-did the turkey do?”
