Shortly after his divorce, he got caught up in an addiction to "methamphetamines" which landed him 2 years in state prison and 2 years in federal prison. "Getting arrested was God's way of throwing me a life-line, because it enabled me to get off my addiction without dying while allowing me to get in a close relationship with God. I am not ashamed of my past, and will never try to cover it up, because if you "forget" where you have been, you are likely to end up there again. God gave me a second chance in life, and I guess that's why I always allow everyone a second chance whenever they too, make a mistake." He is celebrating 8 years of sobriety.

In 2004, he had a close brush with death when being diagnosed with "Deep Vein Thrombosis" (blood clots in the legs) and surprised the doctors that gave him a 5% chance of survival by walking out of the hospital 7 days later. At that time, he was diagnosed with diabetes and emphysema but is doing well now.
